Can I Give My Baby Rooibos Tea? 1

Have you ever wondered if you can give your baby rooibos tea? Or if it will help your baby sleep better at night? I know your parents told you that you drank it and you slept like the sweetest baby. Well, rooibos tea is one of the most healthiest drinks in the world and it’s so good that it’s consumed daily.

Is Rooibos Tea Safe For Babies

According to the World Health Organization and South African Department Of Health, it is advisable to breastfeed your baby up until the age of 6 months. The reason for this is because breast milk contains all the nutrients that a baby needs in order to grow healthily.

With time many moms will add formula to their babies diet or completely substitute it depending on the situation. When I returned to work I was only able to express breast milk for a certain period of time so I had to give my daughter formula top up. But to answer your question, rooibos tea is completely safe for babies and they can drink it without any concerns.

The Benefits Of Giving Rooibos Tea To Babies

As your baby grows older he or she will need to be introduced to new foods and drinks. This is very important as it helps and encourages your baby to chew and swallow. From the age of 6 months and up you can start giving your baby rooibos tea. Your baby will love the natural sweet taste and it is also full of healthy nutrients. A cup of rooibos tea contains antioxidants and is completely free from caffeine and calories.

Some of the many antioxidants found in this super tea are Quercetin and Orientin. Quercetin can kill cancer cells and Orientin contains anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Do you see the benefits? It is a much better alternative than juice and english tea.

How Much Rooibos Tea Can I Give My Baby

Breast milk and or formula is very important for your baby and needs to stay your babies main source of food until the age of 12 months. Do not replace it. You can give your baby sips of rooibos tea in between feeds or when he or she is thirsty. As your baby grows older eventually you can give your baby a full bottle.

And now about the sleeping better part. Rooibos tea also has calming properties. It doesn’t contain sugar or caffeine which gives a boost of energy and awakens the mind. Instead when you drink it, it soothes your mind and helps you relax. It can actually help your baby to settle in for a good night’s rest. However, you shouldn’t forget about the “too much of a good thing” part. Rooibos tea doesn’t contain any calories. If you drink it too often it can lower your blood sugar levels and make you lose weight. Also remember not to add any sugar or milk to your babie’s drink.

When your baby is 12 months and older you can make delicious and healthy homemade ice tea and add some fresh juice to it.
